On the early morning of January 28, 2024, a tragic incident occurred on the I-405 Freeway in Irvine. At approximately 12:44 AM, a white Tesla SUV, model year 2021, veered off the road and collided with a guardrail. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle, which ultimately stopped upon hitting an electrical vault.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the location, which was north of Sand Canyon on the northbound side of the freeway. Upon arrival, they discovered the severely damaged Tesla. Unfortunately, the driver was found deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
The accident led to the involvement of Southern California Edison, who were called to assess potential damages to the electrical vault. The incident resulted in the closure of several freeway lanes as crews worked on clearing the area.
Initial investigations suggest that no other vehicles were implicated in the accident. However, the definitive cause of the crash is still being determined.
